Developmental Science Lab Tours

Faculty in the Developmental Science (DS) area study how human functioning changes across a wide range of ages, from infancy through adulthood. The short videos below introduce each DS lab. They are intended to help prospective students and visitors see what day-to-day research looks like in our area.

Each video (Lab tour) opens in Panopto and starts when you press play.

Cognition, Affect, and Psychophysiology (CAP) Lab logoCognition, Affect, and Psychophysiology Lab (CAP Lab)

The CAP Lab studies brain-behavior relations, with an emphasis on frontal lobe development in infants and children. Its longitudinal work examines individual differences in working memory, inhibitory control, attention, self-regulation, and temperament, using behavioral measures along with EEG and heart rate.

iLEAP Lab logoiLanguage, Environment, Attention, and Parenting (iLEAP) Lab

The iLEAP Lab studies how infants and young children learn to understand and produce language, including the roles of environmental experience, attention, perception, and caregiver interaction such as play.

Memory Development and Policy Lab imageMemory Development and Policy Lab

The Memory Development and Policy (MaP) Lab works at the intersection of memory science, disability advocacy, and policy. Building on long experience in cognitive assessment of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, the lab aims to improve access and inclusion in educational, medical, and forensic settings, including abuse prevention and forensic interviewing.

JK Lifespan Development Lab logoJK Lifespan Development Lab

The JK Lifespan Development Lab studies risk and protective factors for physical and mental health in children, adolescents, and young adults from a bio-psycho-socio-spiritual perspective. Projects examine how stressful experiences, self-regulation, social relationships, and religiousness relate to psychopathology and health risk behaviors, including longitudinal neuroimaging studies of adolescent risk decision-making.

Affective Neurodynamics and Development (AND) Lab logoAffective Neurodynamics and Development (AND) Lab

The AND Lab studies how neural connections underlying cognitive and affective development change across the lifespan, with a focus on interpersonal dynamics such as parent-child attachment, peer relationships, and social influence. The lab combines behavioral, psychophysiological, and neuroimaging methods to examine neural change within and between brains.

Positive Social Development (PSD) Lab logoPositive Social Development (PSD) Lab

The PSD Lab studies positive social development in childhood and adolescence, focusing on prosocial behavior and moral development and their individual, parental, cultural, and contextual correlates.

RAICES Lab logoRAICES Lab

The RAICES (Resilience, Adolescents, Identity, Culture, Education, and Socialization) Lab studies how cultural and socialization processes, including ethnic-racial socialization and family cultural values, shape youth resilience, identity, and well-being, with particular attention to Black and Latinx youth and families. The lab uses surveys, interviews, and systematic reviews.
