The Department of Psychology’s Lee Cooper has been awarded the 2020 Association of Psychology Training Clinics Clinic Research Award.
Cooper is a clinical associate professor and director of the Psychological Services Center. The award recognizes the research achievement by Cooper and his center for “implementation of routine outcome monitoring in a psychology training clinic.” According to the department, the project and associated scholarly products, were part of the center’s measurement-based care clinical research program referred to as SCORE, or Standardized Clinical Outcome Research & Evaluation.
The Association of Psychology Training Clinics (APTC) is the national organization for directors of psychology training clinics. Cooper will receive the award at the APTC’s March conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Cooper earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Northeastern University in 1981, and master’s and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in, respectively, 1986 and 1988. Before joining Virginia Tech in 1998, Cooper served in various positions at the Lewis-Gale Psychiatric Center and Lewis-Gale Clinic.
