Short Bio
I am a graduate student in the clinical science in psychology program at Virginia Tech under the supervision of Dr. John Richey (SCANLAB). I aim to pursue research investigating the role that mindfulness has on various processes involved in reward as it pertains to mood and anxiety disorders. Currently, the Social Clinical Affective Neuroscience Laboratory (SCANLAB) is recruiting volunteer undergraduate research assistants to assist with data collection on a study set to begin in the fall of 2024.
Prospective Undergraduate Research Assistants:
The primary purpose of this position is to assist with conducting psychological research in an upcoming study. The study will investigate how rewarding outcomes impact learning. Typical responsibilities will include study recruitment and managing study protocols (including administration of the experimental paradigm and data collection). This position is most suitable for individuals with a strong research interest in cognitive or clinical psychology that aims to pursue graduate school.
Required Qualifications:
Mature individual comfortable with handling confidential information
Completion of research methods (PSYC 1094) or equivalent course
Able to dedicate 3 hours a week to this role (starting September 2024)
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to work independently and as a team
Ability to work in person
Prior research experience, courses completed in cognitive psychology, ethics, or statistics are an asset but are not required. Pursuing a major in psychology or neuroscience is preferred.
