Jack Finney

My research is focused on psychosocial determinants of health care use, including interventions to improve adherence to medical regimens and regular primary care. Our health services research has identified child, parent, and family factors that are related to high rates of health care use, and many of these factors are indicators of unmet health and mental health needs. I also have an interest in injury prevention, with a special focus on intervention models that reduce the risk of injuries. Beginning in 1990, I began working with Stuart Adler, M.D., Medical College of Virginia, on research designed to prevent the transmission of cytomegalovirus from child to parent, with the goal of preventing developmental and neurological problems associated with maternal CMV infection while pregnant. The common goal of my research is to promote children's health and development by changing risk factors and encouraging protective behaviors.
