Tuesday's tragic shootings in Atlanta have raised understandable fear and anxiety among many in our Asian and Asian-American communities. All of us here in the Psychology Department deserve to work and live in an environment that is safe and welcoming, where we all feel valued. We therefore denounce the increasing instances of bias, violence, and hate crimes toward Asian and Asian American individuals, both in the United States and in other countries. We ask all to stand in solidarity with members of our community who are experiencing this and other forms of racism and xenophobia. We must remain vigilant to the many ways that anti-Asian prejudice and bias affect us and continue working as a department to identify effective and actionable ways to address this issue.
